Bowdoin Center Baptist Church
"You have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work." -2 Timothy 3:15-17 (ESV)

Doctrinal Statement

  1. We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Bible in its original texts, both the Old and New Testaments.
  2. We believe in the deity of the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, our sole Mediator; we further believe in His pre-existence, His incarnation, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His personal, visible, imminent, pre-millennial return from Heaven to the earth.
  4. We believe in the Holy Spirit, His personality, and His activity in regeneration, sanctification, and preservation.
  5. We believe that man was created by the direct act of God, and in the image of God, that he sinned in Adam, and that he is now a sinner by nature and by choice.
  6. We believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from any human merit, works, or ceremonies
  7. We believe that the Church is the Spiritual Body of which Christ is the Head, and that there is a two fold aspect to the Church, the universal and the local. We believe that the ordinances of the local church are two in number: Baptism, or the immersion of the believer in water, which symbolizes the believer's identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection; and the Lord's Supper, a memorial of the atoning death of Christ until He comes. We believe that the church will be raptured prior to the tribulation to meet Christ in the air.
  8. We believe that the local church is autonomous in function, being free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority.
  9. We believe in the resurrection of the human body; the eternal existence of all men either in Heaven or Hell; in Divine judgments, rewards, and punishments.
  10. We believe that we are under obligation to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered unto the Saints; therefore, we should live circumspectly before God, and exemplary before man.

Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Ghost, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort: to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage, that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant, and the principles of God's Word.
